Master Pubic Hair Shaving

Public hair shaving can be problematic. The hair grows in multiple directions, making it harder to get a close shave. Also, the public area is more sensitive than other areas on the body, and without special care, the end results can be painful and unattractive. It's important to have the right tools and knowledge before shaving your pubic area to avoid nicks, cuts and skin irritation, and to keep your public area looking its best.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • new razor
  • small scissors
  • shaving cream
  • shave oil
  • exfoliator
  • moisturizers
  1. Step 1

Trim your public hair with scissors to save wear and tear on your razor and prevent razor burn. Long hair clogs your razor and makes it go dull faster. Dull razors lead to skin irritation and don’t provide the most effective shave.

  2. Step 2

Wash and exfoliate the area. Cleaning away the hair you just trimmed keeps it from clogging up your razor. Exfoliation keeps dead skin cells and dirt from clogging your pores and reduces shaving bumps. It also helps reduce ingrown hairs.

  3. Step 3

Take the rest of your shower or bath before shaving. Soak your pubic hair in warm water for 10 or 15 minutes. This plumps and softens the hair and steams open the hair follicle, giving you an easier and closer shave.

  4. Step 4

Never shave with soap. Soap dries out your skin and rinses away too easily. It also doesn’t provide the same kind of lubrication as shaving cream. You need a thick, moisturizing shaving cream applied evenly to the entire public area. If you have extra sensitive skin, try applying a shave oil before adding your shaving cream for even more lubrication and skin protection.

  5. Step 5

Start with a fresh razor or new razor head. Using a dull razor irritates your skin and leads to nicks and cuts. If you use your razors more than once, use them on our public area first. A sharp blade is the number one most essential tool for getting a close shave.

  6. Step 6

Start by making one pass in the same direction that the hair grows, then rinsing the razor. Make additional passes until you’ve shaved the entire public area. Apply more shaving cream, then pull the skin tight and shave against the direction of hair growth. This will ensure a closer, longer lasting shave. Try not to shave over the same area of skin more than twice to avoid irritation.

  7. Step 7

Dry the area gently with a clean towel, then allow the skin to rest for 10 – 15 minutes before getting dressed. This will allow the hair follicles to close up and prevent irritation caused by detergents and bacteria on your clothes. If you have sensitive skin, apply a light coat of moisturizer.
