Preparing for the First Day of School

Whether you are a new teacher or a tenured teacher with many years behind you, it is important to be prepared for the first day of school.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Grade level Curriculum
  • Classroom Management resources
  1. Step 1

Review your behavior plan. Decide what works and what doesn't and come up with one new idea to implement in your classroom. If you struggle with classroom management skills, seek out ideas and strategies that other teachers have successfully used in their classrooms.

  2. Step 2

Get a jump start on lesson planning with the grade level curriculum. Consider creating a curriculum map to give you a great outline from which to write your daily lesson plans. This will cut time off of your lesson planning during the first few days of school and will help relieve a little of the paperwork for those first few days back to school.

  3. Step 3

Prepare yourself for the new school year by learning something new over the summer. Whether you take a class that counts towards your continuing education or take up fly-fishing, continued learning is vital for teachers. It keeps knowledge fresh and provides a great conversation starter on the first day of school.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take time to relax and rest before the first day of school
