If you are smoker maybe you want to quit but would like to slowly quit and give up your old habit. The steps in this how to should explain how to slowly quit smoking.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • power over your mind
  • calendar
  • someone to remind you of your plan to quit
  1. Step 1

Pick a date that you want to quit. Giving up a habit is hard to do they say but the first step in order to give up smoking is to set a date that way you are prepared to quit.

  2. Step 2

Limit the amount you can smoke per day. For example if you smoke say 20 cigarettes a day cut it down by one cigarette a day. So on day one you can smoke 19 cigarettes on day two you can smoke 18 and so on.

  3. Step 3

Smoke in one spot only. Cut off smoking in the car and after meals or when ever you seem to smoke the most. Smoking is a habit so to break it you must limit where you can smoke. Still keep in mind that you are lowering the amount of cigarettes by day.

  4. Step 4

Get rid of anything that reminds you to smoke such as ashtrays and lighters. Use matches instead that way when you approach your day to quit you will not have any reason to smoke or crave.

  5. Step 5

Quit for yourself. This is the big step to slowly quit smoking. You must decide what will work for you and what will not. These are only suggestions and tips to slowly quit smoking I hope this helps someone.

on 7/5/2009 Much needed article! Quitting cigarettes by going "cold turkey" is definitely not the way to go. I like your natural suggestion for gradually cutting back on the smokes. Great! 5*
