Things You'll Need:
- Good attitude
- Cruise tickets
-
Step 1
Choose the right cruise
Read a travel book, check the internet, consult a travel agent, whatever you do, just do it. Don't be the only 20 year old single on an octogenarian cruise. Don't be the only Mickey hater on a Disney Cruise. -
Step 2
Before the cruise.
Get to know some of your fellow passengers. If you are voyaging on Disney Cruise Lines, go to www.disboards.com and find the Disney cruise meets. You will have a chance to chat with and meet some of your fellow cruisers.
Other cruisers can meet their fellow passengers at www.cruisecritic.com.
If you visit these sites you may board the ship with friends already in hand for the trip. -
Step 3
Ship items ahead
Some cruise lines allow you to ship a package ahead that will meet you in the cabin. Call and ask if this is possible and find out the procedure. Mail yourself a package of sunscreen, extra batteries, hats, whatever you might want but don't want to carry in your luggage. -
Step 4
Be proactive about your cruise.
Get out and participate in activities and fun. The ships cast and crew are there to make sure you have a good time but you need to let them help you. Let loose and be a little silly. Have some fun. -
Step 5
Want a free upgrade?
Upgrades are a treat and never guaranteed. But, here are a couple of tips to make you a favorable candidate. Book early, pay early, keep your reservation simple (No connecting rooms) it's just that simple. It also helps to travel when ships are not likely to fill. -
Step 6
Give your luggage a chance.
Be extra sure your luggage is properly tagged before you let it go. You want to see it again in your room later. Two special bonus tips. Tie matching scraps of fabric around the handles for easy identification. And, photograph your luggage with a digital camera before you let it go. This will make it easy to describe if you have to claim it later. -
Step 7
When you get to the cabin check it thoroughly.
Be sure the plumbing works properly and the safe is in working order. Now is the time to check out the plugs, lamps, closet, etc and make any requests of your steward. He will stop by shortly and ask if you need anything and don't hesitate to let him know if there is a problem. He will be most happy to fix it for you. Please don't spend your trip steaming in your own frustration because you kept quiet. -
Step 8
WEAR SUNSCREEN
Personally I hate sunscreen. But, there's only one thing I hate worse. That's sunburn. The Caribbean is hot and sunny so be ready and protect yourself.
