Obtain a copy of your Credit Report. To clean up your credit report you need to have a copy of your credit report. You can obtain a free credit report or you can pay for one. You only get one free credit report a year so if you have used that one already, pay for one.

Scan your credit report for incorrect information and errors. If you find any incorrect information or errors on your credit report, report it. Write a very detailed letter stating that the information is incorrect and enclose copies of any proof that you have. If you don't have any proof then it will be very hard to get this information removed. Mail this information to the credit bureau. Make sure to take your time because cleaning up your credit report can boost your credit score!

The credit bureau will contact the credit card company that has provided the incorrect information. The credit card company has 30 days to provide proof that the information is correct or the credit bureau will remove the incorrect information.
