MTG is a trading card game where two or more players duel for control with their own customized set. A Magic the Gathering black control deck is one possibility for a group of spells. There are four main ingredients to a Magic the Gathering black control deck. The components include: lands and mana sources, disruption, removal and the victory method. If you like being in charge and not having to worry about opposing threats then this is for you! Here is a guide that will teach you how to construct it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lands and Mana sources
  • Disruption
  • Removal
  • Victory Method
  1. Step 1

Add some lands and mana sources to your Magic the Gathering black control deck. Somewhere between twenty to twenty-four swamps is advisable. You can tweak the number later. These are required in order to give you the energy to win!

  2. Step 2

Add disruption to your Magic the Gathering black control deck. This includes trading cards that force the enemy to discard or prevent the other player from drawing new cards. Try to go with the lowest mana cost options, as you want to engage in this activity in the beginning of the game in order to get board control. About twelve to sixteen of these spells sounds right. Again, feel free to modify the total to your liking.

  3. Step 3

Add removal to your Magic the Gathering black control deck. These are the type of trading cards that destroy creatures or take them out of the game entirely. The point is to stop their threats so that yours can do more damage. Depending on your preference you may wish to go for mass destruction if you don't have many creatures or more targeted removal, if you have lots of your own. Between 10-20 should be good.

  4. Step 4

Add the victory method to your Magic the Gathering black control deck. There are lots of choices to make here. You can add Megrim or other similar MTG trading cards which would help you win with discard or you might go with a more creature oriented approach. You should have sixty cards total after you are done!

  5. Step 5

If you do not have everything you need to finish the construction then visit a trading card store, buy some MTG cards online or ask some friends for help. Good luck.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember, builds are all about creativity! There are no hard and fast rules besides the rules of the game so feel free to do your own thing!
