How to Become an Atmospheric Scientist (Meterologist)
Meteorologist are scientists who do more than just forecast weather. They interpret climate trends, study the pressure of the earth and its temperature, the wind and humidity. They can work for television stations, private companies, radio stations, or for consulting firms. If you want to be a meteorologist for the federal government, you will need at least a Bachelors degree. In school or college focus on classes such as Physics, computer science and physical meteorology, just to name a few.

Take as many advanced math classes as you can if you are still in High School. You are going to want to also take classes in Physics and Chemistry.

Apply to a College that has a Meteorology Program. Florida State offers an Undergraduate and Graduate Program in Meteorology. Penn State also has a Meteorology program.

Study all things weather if you want to become a Meteorologist. Watch the Weather Channel, watch your local weather, visit online weather sites to become more familiar with weather terminology.

Buy all types of weather books or go to your library and take out books on all types of weather. Buy books dealing with tornadoes, hurricanes, lightning, storm chasing and meteorology.

Invest in weather instruments so you can study the weather at your home. You will want to invest in a weather station, a Professional Rain Gauge, Thermometer - Hygrometer, barometer, wind meter and other weather gadgets.

Get experience. Call your local News station and see if you can be an amateur weather watcher for them.
