Wool items cannot usually be washed in a washing machine and require a mild soap. You can purchase wool wash bars from online vendors to use on your wool items. They are most often used for wool diaper covers, longies and shorties but work with any wool. It is easy to use a wool wash bar once you learn how.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wool wash bar
  1. Step 1

Fill a sink or tub with warm water big enough to hold the item you need to wash.

  2. Step 2

As you fill the sink, hold the wool wash bar under the running water until the water is cloudy.

  3. Step 3

Submerge the wool item under the water, rubbing visibly dirty spots with the wool wash bar. Agitate the water with your hands to work in the soap.

  4. Step 4

Allow the item to soak for up to an hour to clean all the fibers.

  5. Step 5

Drain and squeeze out the excess water. Be careful to not overly stretch or misshape the garment as you squeeze. Fold the item carefully and press down evenly to get the water out.

  6. Step 6

Lay flat to dry. It can take up to 48 hours to completely dry but you can speed up that process by putting the item in the spin cycle of your washing machine.
