Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that is used to pull toxins out of the body. It is especially good for dental problems like bleeding gums, gum disesase, loose teeth, bad breath and cavities. People claim that it can heal a number of conditions and improve the health of your skin.

Traditionally, oil pulling is done with sunflower or sesame oil, but people have seen results using other types of oil too. You can use any oil that suits your constitution.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 tablespoon of cold pressed sunflower oil or sesame oil (you can choose another oil too)
  1. Step 1

Put one tablespoon of cold pressed sunflower or sesame oil in you mouth for oil pulling. You should oil pull first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything.

  2. Step 2

Swish the oil around in your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes. Push and pull the oil between your teeth. The first time you do this it might be difficult to keep the oil in your mouth for so long because your gag reflex may kick in. If so just spit it out and over time try to work your way up to 15 to 20 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Tilt your head back slightly to make sure you get your back teeth. Don't gargle with the oil.

  4. Step 4

Do something else while oil pulling. It'll make the time go faster. Sitting around swishing oil in your mouth can get quite boring.

  5. Step 5

When you're finished spit the oil into the toilet. It should be thin and white. If it is still yellow you didn't swish it for long enough. The oil contains lots of bacteria and shouldn't be spit into the sink. If you do spit it into the sink make sure you clean you sink out with anti-bacterial soap afterward.

  6. Step 6

    Rinse your mouth out well.

  7. Step 7

    Brush as usual.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can oil pull up to 3 times a day.
  • Always do it on an empty stomach--4 hours after eating or 1 hour after drinking.
  • Don't gargle with the oil.
  • Never swallow the oil.
