For those wanting to learn how to make dreads with a loop at one end this is the one to read! These dreads are used for extensions that are braided into the hair. You can also use these on wigs and make them into falls. These dreads are for people who like dreads but want a non permanent hair style!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 100% kanekalon jumbo braid
  • Backcombing brush or flea comb
  • A table or chair
  • A plastic hanger
  • Rubber cleaning gloves
  • Tea kettle
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

The hair- 100% kanekalon Jumbo Braid. For this demonstration I am using bits of stray hair I had from previous projects. I saved them just to make this tutorial. I haven't made single enders in a long time so I am just using the leftover bits. FYI the colors are neon violet, uv orange, highlighter yellow, black, and neon green.

    Backcombing Brush

  3. Step 3

A card table with lace/string tied to the legs- This is helpful cause you can lay stuff on the table as you work and it is used in creating the dreads.

  4. Step 4

Take your length of hair and thread it through the back of the lace

  5. Step 5

Fold the hair over the lace in half like so

  6. Step 6

Backcomb the hair starting at the base and work to the tip

  7. Step 7

Do the same to the underside and the sides of the dread this way you get the entire dreads back combed otherwise it will not work.

  8. Step 8

Take the end of the brush handle and stab it through the hair all over from bottom to tip. This helps to make the top and back piece stick together so when you seal the dread it is nice and solid. ***This is a handy step that can be used on making de dreads too!***

  9. Step 9

Twist it up to see how it looks. If you don't like how it looks twisted cause maybe there is a bump some where just un-twist and comb out the bumps. wehn your done slide the dread off the string or lace.

  10. Step 10

Dread Hook: This is a tool I made. It is a broken piece from a plastic hanger. You want to make sure that you have it so that their is a hook at the end. You need this to help seal the dreads and to maintain the loop.

  11. Step 11

A tea kettle on the stove with boiling water with the lid slightly off for the steam to spew out the side. Must be done on an electric stove or hot plate for this to work!!!!!!!

  12. Step 12

Yellow cleaning gloves-for protection from steam burns

  13. Step 13

While the water is boiling on the stove thread the loop onto the dread hook. Push it down so that the looped part is in the crook of the hook.

  14. Step 14

Put on your gloves and start to seal the dread by placing the dread in the steam, rolling it on the kettle in the steam and twisting it tightly to form the dread. The steam will shrink the hair and thus forming the shape and sealing the dread.

  15. Step 15

A good way to make it easier on you is to use the dread hook to help spin the hair and it is also very handy to seal the loop. Make sure you seal the loop as well to keep it's shape.

  16. Step 16

Let the dread rest after you have completely sealed it still on the hook until it's cool.

  17. Step 17
Just trim off the stray hairs

Now take it off and you will see a nice loop on the end.

  18. Step 18
If you could feel this dread it is solid!

Trim off the stray hairs and you have yourself a nice looking single ended dread!
