How to Clean the Coils on a Whirlpool Refrigerator

  1. Step 1

Pull your refrigerator away from the wall and into an open space in your kitchen. Make sure you have plenty of room to work behind the appliance.

  2. Step 2

Spread a drop cloth or newspaper on the floor next to the refrigerator to catch any debris and protect your floor surface. Dust the surface of the coils with your broom. This will remove dirt and dust clumps that accumulate on the coils.

  3. Step 3

Blow the dust out of the inner areas of the coils with an air compressor if you have one. You may also use a vacuum to pull the dust out of the coils.

  4. Step 4

Brush the coils gently with a soft-bristled household cleaning brush.

  5. Step 5

Dispose of the dirt in a trash receptacle and replace the refrigerator. Dust and lint are highly combustible and should be thoroughly removed from the area to eliminate any possible fire hazard.

Tips & Warnings
  • Clean the area under your Whirlpool refrigerator by blowing the dust and dirt out with your air compressor hose or vacuum. This area contains other important components of your refrigerator and is often overlooked. This can lead to appliance failure.
