How to Stop Cellulite

Cellulite results from fat deposits underneath the skin's surface. Connective tissue pushes up against these fat deposits, causing the cottage cheese-like appearance of cellulite. While there are various things you can do to reduce the appearance of cellulite, it is difficult to stop it altogether. Even thin individuals oftentimes experience cellulite. There are, however, various treatments to improve the appearance of cellulite.

Instructions

    • 1

Reduce your body fat. While you can't eliminate the number of fat cells you have, you can shrink their size. By reducing the size of your fat cells, your cellulite will improve, becoming less noticeable. To lose body fat, burn more calories than you consume daily.

    • 2

Get cardiovascular exercise. This will help you to burn body fat and tone your muscles. When your muscles are toned and fit, your cellulite will become less apparent. Try jogging, aerobics, swimming, dancing and cycling, which are all good forms of cardiovascular exercise. Get at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise daily for best results.

    • 3

Massage your cellulite. Massage increases circulation, helping blood to flow freely through the area, thereby improving the appearance of cellulite. Massage also helps to break up dense fat deposits. Apply firm pressure to the area daily for at least two minutes.

    • 4

Try dry-brushing. This is a popular method for cellulite reduction, using only a body brush. You simply use circular motions to move the body brush over the cellulite-prone area. This encourages circulation and supports one's lymphatic system. For best results, dry-brush the area daily prior to bathing.

    • 5

Use anti-cellulite creams and lotions. These topical treatments are applied directly to the surface of the skin. They often contain caffeine, which stimulates the area. You must continue using anti-cellulite treatments to maintain their effects.

    • 6

Consider liposuction. Cosmetic surgery is the only way to actually remove fat cells from the body. A plastic surgeon will create an incision in the skin and insert a vacuum-like device to suction fat cells out of the area. You can significantly improve your cellulite via liposuction.

Tips & Warnings

  • Drink plenty of water. Water cleanses your body's systems, helping to improve the appearance of cellulite.

  • As with any surgery, there are substantial risks involved with liposuction.
