How to Watch a UMD Video

Watching UMD videos on a PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a great way to watch videos on the go. The newer model PSP's also come equipped with a video input that lets you watch UMD videos on a TV. The video input is only on the PSP 2000 and 3000 models. The PSP Go model does not have a UMD drive.

Instructions

  1. Watching UMD Videos on the PSP

      Turn the PSP on and insert the UMD disk.

      Press the PS button to display the media menu.

      Select Video>UMD and press X.

    Watching UMD Videos on TV

      Insert the PSP Component or cable into the PSP video out input and insert the other end of the cable into the video input on the TV.

      Turn on the TV and press Source (on some older TV's, this is located before channel 1) on the TV. Select the video source that the cable is connected to.

      Turn on the PSP, press and hold the display button (right of the music button). The screen on the PSP will turn off and the PSP display will appear on the TV.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's a good idea to plug in the AC power adapter when you watch a movie, to prevent the PSP's battery from dying. If you plan on watching UMD's regularly on your TV, keep the Component/AV cables plugged in. The PSP 1000 cannot play UMD videos on TV, due to not having a video input.
