How to Install DVD Firmware
The term "firmware" refers to the small program that controls basic functions of a hardware device, such as a computer's DVD drive. Without it, the device will not operate. There may be a need to update or re-install a device's firmware should the manufacturer fix bugs in previous versions or add to the device's features.

Download and run Nero InfoTool 5. This tool can provide you with a wealth of information about your computer's DVD drive. A link to the download is below in the Resources section.

Locate and make a note of the manufacturer and firmware version for your drive. The manufacturer info name is usually in the name of the current drive, and the firmware version is in the General section.

Open your web browser and go to CdrInfo firmware search page. A link is below in the Resources section.

Select the drive type, manufacturer and model from the drop-down list in the Instant Firmware Location area of the page.

Find the version of the firmware you wish to download, and click on the Download Location link. This will take you to the manufacturer's website where the firmware resides. Manufacturers generally provide detailed instructions on how to install the firmware.

Tips & Warnings
Firmware is usually a binary file (.bin) that has to be flashed using a utility provided by the manufacturer, but many manufacturers have compiled small programs to flash the drive easily. If your firmware is not located by the CdrInfo web site, try running a search via your favorite search engine using the manufacturer name, the model number of the DVD player and the word "firmware."
It is potentially dangerous to your DVD drive and its functionality to flash your DVD drive with firmware that is not approved by the manufacturer.
