Use S Video Cables

S video cables are high-quality cables used for transferring video signals from one device to another---usually from a DVD player to a television. Because they transmit a higher-quality signal than standard component video cables, the same video signal will be displayed at a higher quality when it reaches its destination than it would if you were using standard, non-S video cables. Not all devices support S video, so make sure both devices you are trying to connect have S video inputs and outputs before attempting to use them.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • S video cable Two S video-ready devices
  1. Step 1

Locate the S video output on your first device. If it is not labeled, you can recognize the output due to its shape: It is circular and has six tiny pinholes inside the circle.

  2. Step 2

Locate the S video input on your second device.

  3. Step 3

Plug each end of your S video cable into each of your devices. One end should go into the output on the back of the first device, and the other end should go into the input on the back of the second device. When you finish, both devices should be connected by the same cable.

  4. Step 4

Make sure each device knows you are using an S video cable. As S video cables are not the standard method of sending a video signal between two devices, you need to enter the main "Video Settings" menu on each device and select the "S video" option under the "Video Output/Input" screen.
