How to Knit Lion Brand Yarn
Lion Brand Yarn is an American yarn-making company that has been spinning fibers since 1878. Lion Brand has used its 130 years of experience in the business to create award-winning yarns that attract new and younger knitters, even igniting a knitting revolution earlier in this century. Family-owned and -operated, Lion Brand Yarn currently sells 53 styles of yarn from the wool staple to novelty Fun Fir yarn. Within each style of yarn is a plethora of color choices. The endless array of products may make starting a knitting project look daunting, but Lion Brand has thousands of patterns available on its website, books for purchase and the Knit.1 magazine. The yarn is sold in the Lion Brand online store and in major craft chain stores.

Choose a Knitting Pattern
-
1
Lion Brand's website has more than 2,000 free patterns. To view them, you need to register on the website and create an account. Registration is free and offers many additional resources. On the homepage, click "Sign In/Register" and then fill out the form.
-
2
Once you've created an account, you can look for a pattern. At the top of the page, from the "Patterns" menu, click "Free Patterns."
-
-
3
Under "All Free Knitting Patterns," select the category that best suits your knitting interests. If, for example, you want to knit something for a baby, click "Free Knitting Patterns for Preemies, Babies/Infants and Toddlers."
-
4
The next page will open a list of all of the free knitting patterns in the section. The patterns are categorized by item type, title, skill level, yarn and sizes. You can change the pattern list by clicking one of the categories to sort the patterns by the category of your choice. If, for example, you want to knit a baby afghan and choose the first afghan listed, "Baby Love Diagonal Baby Blanket," the pattern opens in its own page and provides you with a picture, the skill level, finished size of the pattern, the type of Lion Brand yarn to use and colors available, links to buy the materials directly from the Lion Brand website if you choose and then the complete pattern.
The pattern is printable and you can also save it in the Bookmarks section of your account. When you've completed the project, upload a picture of it in the Projects section.
Substituting Yarn
-
5
If you want to substitute another type of yarn recommended for a project with a Lion Brand yarn, at the top of the Lion Brand website, from the "Our Yarns" menu, click "Yarn By Weight." All of Lion Brand's yarns are listed on this page by their weight category.
-
6
Look for the weight category your pattern calls for, and then review the Lion Brand yarns in that category.
-
7
Knit a gauge swatch with the Lion Brand yarn you chose to make sure it matches your pattern's gauge.
