How to Make a Pitcher of Bloody Marys
The Bloody Mary is a popular tomato juice and vodka-based drink with reputed curative powers when it comes to hangovers. Invited in the 1920s by Fernand Petiot, a bartender at Harry's New York Bar in Paris, the drink has grown in popularity and in variety. There are many reported origins of the Bloody Mary name. Some claim the drink is named after a bar patron. Others claim it is named after a member of the wait staff and some equate the name with Queen Mary I. Whatever the origin, it is a refreshing drink. Things You'll Need
- Pitcher Ice Lemon - half a fresh lemon Worcestershire Sauce - 3 tbsp. Vodka - 3 cups Tomato Juice - 6 cups Celery stalks Lemon wedges

Classic Bloody Mary

Fill pitcher with ice and squeeze contents of the lemon into the pitcher.

Add Worcestershire Sauce, vodka and tomato juice.

Stir and then pour the Bloody Mary into individual glasses filled with ice. Garnish each with a celery stalk and lemon wedges.

Tips & Warnings
There are many variations in the classic Bloody Mary. If you'd like to experiment, try the following: Vary the spices according to your taste. Add hot pepper sauce, pepper, salt, celery salt, garlic, basil, lime, wasabi, fresh grated horseradish or a steak sauce. Replace the vodka with gin, beer, aquavit or tequila. Replace the tomato juice with a vegetable juice, beef bouillon or Clamato. Change the garnish. Substitute an asparagus stalk for the celery or a cherry tomato for the lemon. Slide in a pickle spear or a few olives. Freeze cherry tomatoes and use them to replace the ice cubes.
