How to Create a Virtual Lab
If you are into 3-D graphics and animation, you know that the keys to any scene are props. With the right props, you can make any old 3-D room into anything from a throne room to a pool hall. Let's demonstrate this by creating a virtual lab using nothing but a basic room and lots of props. You'll need a program like Poser, Daz Studio or Quidam 3D to host the scene and render it. We'll use Poser.
Things You'll Need
- 3D room with two or three walls 3D tables 3D Bunsen burners 3D test tubes and a holder 3D Tesla coils 3D computers 3D general scientific-looking equipment

1
Go to sites like Renderosity and Planet-3D to get the props you will need. You might not have to buy them, since both sites have a large collection of free models, props and textures you can use.
-
2
Extract the files you download to the Poser libraries. All the file paths will be there, so they should extract to the right location without your doing anything. Some items will be going to the "Figures" library and some to the "Props" library.

3
Open Poser. Delete the default figure in the scene. Go to the libraries and select the items you want to use. Double-click on an item to load it. The first thing to load is the room itself. Now start loading other items you would move into a lab. Furniture comes first, such as the table and chairs. Position and resize them to suit the room.
-
4
Start loading the smaller props, such as the test tubes and computers. Once you have the scene way you want it, go to the "Lighting" library and select a set of lights.
-
5
Use the "Camera" controls on the left to position the camera where you want it. And that's it. You are ready to render the camera view of your new virtual lab.
