Instructions

    • 1

Wash and dry empty baby food jars. You can remove the labels from them, although this step is not necessary. The favors can end up looking really cute with the labels left intact. Consider writing a shower guest's name and the date of the shower on the label with permanent marker to add a special personalized touch.

    • 2

Cover a flat surface with a few layers of newspaper, and remove the lids from the baby food jars. Paint the lids, and allow them to dry completely.

    • 3

Fill the jars with potpourri. Center a paper doily over the mouth of the jar. Hold it firmly in place as you cap the jar with a painted lid. Tighten the lid well.

    • 4

Wrap a piece of ribbon around the sides of the jar just below the lid. Tie it into a bow. Secure the ribbon in several spots with tiny dots of white glue, if so desired.

    • 5

Glue a small silk flower to the front of the jar to add decoration.

Tips & Warnings

  • Substitute other items for the potpourri, such as colorful loose bath salts, candies, tiny soaps, loose tea leaves or pretty candles. While you create your homemade favors, keep in mind that it's the thought that counts, so nothing has to be perfect --- the doily can be a little uneven, or the ribbon can be a bit crooked. Your guests will love receiving handmade mementos of the occasion, and they will appreciate the time and love that you put into making them.
