If you're using an Averatec laptop and the keys stop working or you need to work on the motherboard or other internal components, you'll have to remove the keyboard to fix the problem. The keyboard is easy to remove and you shouldn't have any problems from the computer when you put the keyboard back, as long as you're gentle with the laptop and your body is grounded when you touch the motherboard.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flathead Screwdriver
  1. Step 1

Power down the laptop and wait a few minutes so it can cool down. While you're waiting, touch an unpainted metal surface to ground yourself, so you don't damage the internal components of the computer (you may come in contact with the motherboard while you're doing this job).

  2. Step 2

    Lay the laptop screen flat.

  3. Step 3

Use your thumbs and forefingers to remove the casing. Once the casing is off, you can easily remove the keyboard.

  4. Step 4

Insert the end of the screwdriver between the "PgDn" key and the laptop's frame and gently lift the keyboard away from the laptop.

  5. Step 5

Insert the screwdriver again between the "Caps Lock" key and the frame and lift the other side of the keyboard away from the laptop.

  6. Step 6

Follow the keyboard ribbon to the motherboard and gently spread the tabs that secure the ribbon.

  7. Step 7

Pull the ribbon out of the motherboard and the keyboard will be removed from the laptop.
