How to Use Dandruff Shampoo for Ringworms

Ringworm infections are caused by fungus, not an actual worm. This fungus lives in the outer layer of skin. Symptoms of ringworm include skin that is red, itchy and dry. The best treatment is a prescribed antifungal medication, but using certain shampoos can help speed up the process.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a dandruff shampoo that contains selenium sulfide or ketoconazole. These shampoos can be found at most pharmacies or other places that sell hair products.

    • 2

Wash your hair with the shampoo. Thoroughly scrub your scalp and pay extra attention to the area with ringworm. Rinse the shampoo out of your hair.

    • 3

Dry your hair with a towel or hair dryer. Never use the same towel twice without washing it first.

    • 4

Wash your hair once a day until the ringworm is gone. It typically takes two to four weeks to heal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear a shower cap to bed to prevent the fungus from getting on your pillow. Boil the cap after each use.
