- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 3/4 cup plus 3 tbsp butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 3/4 cup rolled oats
- 1 1/2 cup raisins
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 3 tbsp milk
- 1 egg
- 1 cup mashed banana
- 2 tbsp grated lemon peel
- 3/4 cup chopped pitted dates
Step1
Heat oven to 375 degrees F.
Step2
Cover cookie sheets with foil.
Step3
Combine flour, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, ginger and nutmeg in a small bowl. Stir to mix and set aside.
Step4
Beat 3/4 c. margarine or butter and sugar together until creamy.
Step5
Add egg, banana and lemon peel and beat until all ingredients are blended.
Step6
Slowly stir in flour mixture, mixing well.
Step7
Add oats, raisins, nuts and dates, stirring until mixed.
Step8
Drop batter by rounded tablespoons onto foil-covered cookie sheets.
Step9
Bake 15 to 18 minutes, or until cookies are a light, golden brown but still soft.
Step10
Remove cookies and foil from baking sheet, lifting both away from sheet. Cool cookies on foil.
Step11
Combine 3 tbsp. softened butter or margarine, powdered sugar and milk to make glaze.
Step12
Spoon some glaze over each cookie, letting it run down the sides.
Step13
Cool glazed cookies completely and store in an airtight container.

on 11/22/2005 Instead of just adding raisins and dates, I've added Fruit Bits from Sun Maid. The cookies were great!
