How To Make Hair Pieces & Wigs

Explore your inner hairstylist and save money at the same time as you make your own wigs and hairpieces. Store-bought wigs can be expensive, especially ones made with real hair, and the fit can only be adjusted to a limited extent. By making your own wigs, you can craft many styles for less money and create a look that has been personalized just the way you want it.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Styrofoam head display Wig cap Packs of hair with tracks attached Hair bonding glue or glue adhesive Comb

    Wigging Out

  1. Step 1

    Fit wig cap onto head display. The cap color should blend with the hair for the wig.

  2. Step 2

    Glue tracks of hair onto the cap. Arrange the tracks carefully. Cut the hair tracks into smaller sections if needed for styling purposes.

  3. Step 3

    Comb the hair lightly to eliminate tangles.

  4. Step 4

    Cut the hair to your desired length and comb through lightly.

  5. Step 5

    Allow glue to dry for a few hours or overnight.

  6. Step 6

    Comb and style wig for finished look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hair bonding glue can easily be removed. Glue adhesive is more permanent and is often used for hairpieces and wigs. If your desired hairstyle has layers or bangs, use different lengths of hair.
  • Curling irons and flat irons are not recommended if you use synthetic hair.
