A soft, buttery cookie...tart, fruity candies...two deliciously wonderful treats that when combined into a single confection create a magical, flavorful explosion of "yum." Hungry yet? This simple recipe--a fusion of old-fashioned sugar cookies and Smarties candies--is sure to satisfy your hunger. Just add a glass of milk.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 large mixing bowls Smarties candies 3 cups all-purpose flour 3 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 1/3 cups shortening 1 1/2 cups sugar Electric mixer 2 eggs 2 tbsp. heavy whipping cream 2 tsp. pure vanilla extract Confectioner's sugar
  1. Step 1

Combine 1 cup Smarties, 3 cups all-purpose flour, 3 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt in a large mixing bowl and mix thoroughly. Set aside.

  2. Step 2

Combine 1 1/3 cups shortening and 1 1/2 cups sugar in a large mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer on low speed until thoroughly creamed.

  3. Step 3

Add 2 eggs, 2 tbsp. heavy whipping cream and 2 tsp. pure vanilla extract to the shortening mixture. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed until thoroughly blended.

  4. Step 4

Add the Smarties mixture to the shortening mixture a little at a time. Using your hands, mix the ingredients well until a firm dough is formed. Place the dough in the refrigerator and allow it to chill for at least three hours.

  5. Step 5

Roll the dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place them, one inch apart, on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for eight to 12 minutes or until tops are lightly browned.

  6. Step 6

Remove the cookies from the oven. While they are still warm, lightly sprinkle them with confectioner's sugar.

  7. Step 7

Allow the cookies to cool completely and store in an airtight container.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can substitute butter for shortening, however, this will create a crispier, flatter cookie. If you decide to make this substitution, add one extra egg to your recipe to help maintain a softer consistency.
