How to Wear a Heart Monitor
Heart monitors offer many advantages to users. They are especially beneficial to people who are training for a specific event like a marathon and want to keep their heart rate in a specific, targeted range. Although there are many companies that make heart rate monitors, they all have the same basic components and they are worn the same way. The steps involved with the set-up take a minimal amount of time, and you are ready to go.

1
Get familiar with your monitor. Look through the features that come with the monitor. The most basic models will give you nothing more than your heart rate and the time, but sophisticated models will give you caloric expenditure, distance, elevation and target heart rate zones.

2
Prep the chest strap. The monitor has two pieces to it. One of them is a chest strap that has sensors on it that pick up your heart rate. Apply some water or saline solution to the the sensors.

3
Apply the chest strap. To put the chest strap on, you need to lift your shirt or remove it. When you have done this, place the strap right under the chest area across the sternum bone. Make sure it is snug and the sensors are flat against your skin.
-
4
Put on the watch. The other piece of the heart rate monitor is the transmitter watch which is worn on the wrist. Simply place this on your wrist wherever you normally wear a watch.
-
5
Take it for a test drive. After you have placed the chest strap and wrist transmitter on, your heart rate should appear on the screen. Go for a jog or bike ride and see if it is working. If it is not, then adjust the chest strap to the right or left slightly as the sensors may not quite be in the right place.
