How to Put on a Gas Mask
The gas mask was introduced to the public during World War II, at which time fear of gas attacks led to widespread proliferation of the device. The ability to quickly don a gas mask is arguably as important as its function, since toxic gas takes very little exposure time to take effect.

Tips & Warnings
Never lift the front under the chin to remove the mask. Store gas masks in airtight containers away from sun or moisture to insure their longevity and effectiveness. The most effective gas masks are fitted especially to the wearer. The window of the gas mask can easily mist over. To prevent this, wet a finger or piece of paper towel, apply some soap and rub it over the inside of the mask window.
Never hang a mask by its straps, since this changes its dimensions and ability to block outside air. Accidental suffocation can result from improper gas mask use. Practice gas mask use under the observation of someone with proper training. When purchasing a gas mask, make sure it is an approved model. Many surplus models may be ineffective, obsolete or pose suffocation hazards.
