How to Paint the Plastic Bumpers on a Truck
Trucks used to have bumpers made of steel with either a painted or chrome finish on them. Now most new trucks have a painted plastic bumper cover with a lower portion of grey or black plastic on them. The problem is that this plastic bumper is flexible and the paint can become cracked. The black plastic area can also become dull and faded. But a truck owner can paint the plastic bumpers relatively easily, and get the truck looking shiny again.

1
Sand the plastic areas with 300 grit sandpaper. A sander can be used, but only for the flat, smooth areas of the bumper. The contoured and smaller areas must be sanded by hand. Sand until the entire bumper is scuffed and smooth. Sand the bumper again using 800 grit sandpaper.

2
Wipe the sanded area with a rag and wax and grease remover. Repeat this step until the bumper is clean of all sanding dust and dirt. Place masking tape and paper around the bumper to protect the painted body of the truck from overspray.
