How to Draw Iron

Drawing of an antique iron

The molecules that compose iron, the chemical element Fe, are too small to see. Iron as a nutrient is only visible indirectly, such as from the signs of anemia, which is an iron deficiency. But iron is a very strong metal, and it has been used to build bridges and antique irons, for example. Thus, drawing an iron bridge or an antique iron are two ways to illustrate the metal iron.

Instructions

  1. Draw an Iron Bridge

    • 1

Draw the outline of the bridge. Draw a wide, upside-down V-shape, with two vertical lines coming down from either end. You should end up with a house shape.

    • 2

Draw a second upside-down V-shape below the first one. Draw an arch connecting the left vertical line to the right one. Also, draw a vertical line connecting the two points of the parallel upside-down V-shapes.

    • 3

Draw a half arch on the left side of the iron bridge, slightly to the right of the first arch and parallel to it. Draw support beams between the arch and the vertical beams. Draw circles in the corners of the bridge.

    • 4

Draw perpendicular lines across the ones drawn in Step 3, to connect the support beams.

    • 5

Draw the beams underneath the bridge, and darken the lines of the ones drawn in Steps 3 and 4. In the space between the two leftmost arches, draw three spaced vertical lines, with the same curves as the arches. Draw lines perpendicular to these new ones.

    • 6

Draw the railings above the bridge, parallel to the upside-down V and above the bridge. This is the top of the railing. Draw lines for the support beams between the top railing and the top of the bridge.

    • 7

Draw the smaller supports between the railing and the bridge. Add shading to the space just underneath the horizontal part of the bridge.

    • 8

Draw a lattice shape behind the right side of the bridge.

    Draw an Antique Iron

    • 9

Draw the outline of the handle of the iron. Draw a question mark without the bottom dot and a mirror image of this line to the left. Draw a rectangle-shape handle between the two curved lines.

    • 10

Continue drawing the handle of the iron. Make curved lines parallel to the question mark shapes. Below them, draw two cube shapes below the question mark shapes. For advice on how to draw a cube, check the link in the Resources section below.

    • 11

Draw the outline of the base of the iron. The top of the iron is shaped like a shield. Draw two vertical lines coming down from the rightmost corners of the shield. Connect the point of the shield shape to the bottom of the left vertical line, and connect the bottoms of both vertical lines.

    • 12

Add shading to the sides of the cubes at the base of the handle. Also, shade in the sides of the iron.

    • 13

Add a lighter shade to the rest of the iron, and darken the outline of the iron.
