Disassemble DS

The DS is a handheld gaming system from the makers of Nintendo. The DS incorporates two LCD screens: a touch screen the players control and the game-play screen. In addition to allowing users to play the Nintendo DS games, the DS offers users the ability to communicate and play games wirelessly with any other DS in range. The DS has many more internal components than other handheld gaming systems.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Phillip's head screwdriver Tri-wing screwdriver Knife
  1. Step 1

Flip the device over and unscrew the battery pack cover from the bottom right corner. Lift out the battery. Unscrew the five tri-wing screws from the back of the DS: one at each corner and an additional screw inside of the battery pack's slot.

  2. Step 2

Remove the rubber pieces from the bottom of the device and remove the screws located there. Slide the DS pen out of its slot and remove the plastic covering of the bottom section of the device.

  3. Step 3

Take off the left and right shoulder buttons from the Nintendo DS. Each button will have a small spring attached to it, make sure you leave this spring connected to the button. Next, remove the wireless motor. Looking at the inside of the DS you will see a large silver square directly in the center of the device. Next to that is a smaller silver square, which is the wireless motor. Unscrew the motor and disconnect the wireless antenna. The wireless antenna will snap off of the motor easily.

  4. Step 4

Unsnap the wire that rested under the wireless motor. Look directly up from the wire you just disconnected, and locate a white circle on the motherboard. Unscrew the screw that is located in this white circle to loosen the motherboard.

  5. Step 5

Push the bottom LCD screen in so that the screen and motherboard separate from the front plastic covering. You should notice a wire coming off of the motherboard at the bottom right corner. Follow the wire and pull up on the small plastic tab that holds it down. Lift the motherboard free from the DS.

  6. Step 6

Disconnect the LCD screen from the motherboard by locating the gold film-like strip that leads away from the LCD screen and connects to the motherboard. Pull up on the small plastic tab that holds the gold strip down and remove the LCD screen from the motherboard. Unscrew the two small screws from the bottom right corner of the plastic case that held the LCD screen you just removed and separate the bottom plastic half of the DS from the top half.

  7. Step 7

Finish disassembling the DS by removing the top LCD screen. To do this, remove the rubber pad from each corner of the top plastic case and remove the screw under each rubber pad. Open the top half of the case to expose the LCD screen. Find the gold film-like strip that leads away from the screen. Release the small plastic tab and remove the second LCD screen.
