How to Play Speed Stacks
Speed stacking has been around since the 1980s, although it did not receive notice until 1990, when it was shown on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. The game uses plastic cups and can be played with teams or individually. It consists of players piling cups into various patterns and stacks as fast as possible.

Stacking
Start with two stacks of three cups, with a space of about a foot between the stacks.
-
2
Begin to "upstack" the first set of three cups. Place the top cup on the stack directly beside the other two and place the next cup in the stack on top of the two remaining cups. A pyramid shape should result.
-
3
Build the same pyramid with the remaining stack of cups. If you are right handed, start with the left hand stack, and work right. Work right to left if you are left handed.
-
4
Begin to "downstack," or take down your pyramids. Slide the top-most cup on your left hand pyramid to the right and down onto the adjacent cup. With your left hand, take the remaining cup and place it onto the other two cups.
-
5
Downstack the remaining pyramid on your right. Repeatedly upstack and downstack until satisfied. This stack pattern is called the 3-3 stack.

Tips & Warnings
Slide your cups onto each other, do not slam Make sure you grab your cups on their sides, not on top.
Make sure you only handle one stack at a time. Doing otherwise is against the rules.
