A business that specializes in cleaning foreclosed homes can be profitable in both good and bad economies. If you want to work for banks and other agencies that sell foreclosed homes, you should be able to find work quickly. After obtaining the proper business licenses and insurance, contact banks to see if they have work available. How to Clean Foreclosed Homes for the Bank

  1. Step 1

Obtain a business license to clean foreclosed homes. Contact your local chamber of commerce, business and licensing office or other government office in your area that issues business licenses. You will also have to obtain business insurance.

  2. Step 2

Complete training courses required by your state to obtain a business license. Courses may include OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) training or hazardous-waste-removal training.

  3. Step 3

Decide which cleaning services to offer. Furniture and junk removal, washing windows and fixtures, completing minor repairs, changing light bulbs, scrubbing floors and painting are some of the services cleaning companies that specialize in foreclosed homes offer.

  4. Step 4

Create business cards and advertise in local publications and on Web sites. You can also send marketing materials such as postcards or brochures that outline your services to banks, real estate agencies and mortgage companies.

  5. Step 5

Determine client need before accepting a job. Junk removal, washing windows and basic cleaning (sweeping floors, disinfecting carpets) are required by most banks. Some clients may ask for detailed cleaning which includes vacuuming carpets, cleaning toilets, sinks, and bathtubs, scrubbing floors and dusting light fixtures.

Tips & Warnings
  • List your services on business cards and other marketing materials. Be specific about which cleaning services you provide. Be prepared to remove large pieces of furniture, old carpets and other items.
  • Always wear proper safety clothing when entering a foreclosed home. Before entering a foreclosed home, walk the perimeter and look through windows to get a better idea of the condition of the home. Contact law enforcement or your client if you find someone living in the home.
