Lacrosse goalies use a stick with a larger catching surface and longer reach than the field players. The stick is vital to making saves and clearing the ball for an offensive breakout. The stick's pocket is responsible for both, so stringing it properly is an important skill to master.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lacrosse goalie stick head Restringing kit
  1. Step 1

Open the kit and manually stretch the mesh in all directions until it can fill the stick head's opening. Fold the excess mesh over the head's frame, aligning the first and third rows of mesh holes. Tie off one end of the top string on the mesh, then thread the remaining string through the head's holes. Re-thread the string back to the beginning, alternately threading through the holes of the folded over mesh.

  2. Step 2

Tie off one of the sidewall strings and alternately thread it through the bottom of the mesh (not the plastic head holes) heading to the top sidewall hole. Push it through the plastic, wrap over the first mesh string, and tie. Repeat on the opposite side for the other sidewall string. Tie the bottom of the mesh through the bottom holes on the head.

  3. Step 3

Beat a pocket into the mesh, punching with your fist or using a baseball, until the pocket is formed. Remember to work the pocket to a depth according to your playing style. A loose pocket will excel at trapping the ball but won't allow for accurate throws.

  4. Step 4

Begin tying your first shooting string three rows below the top of the head and work your way across, pulling the string taught as you go. Begin tying the second shooting string in the same manner, three rows down from the top shooting string, threading the string slightly looser than the top. Thread the hockey lace string two rows below the bottom shooting string in the same manner.

Tips & Warnings
  • Spray painting your pocket after forming it in will prolong the shape.
