How to Convert a DVD Movie to iPod Format

Many iPod owners like to use their device as a portable movie player. If you want to watch your favorite DVD on your iPod, you'll need to convert it to an MP4, the format supported by iPods. Luckily, modern technology makes the process fairly easy.

Things You'll Need:

  • DVD Decrypter software Videora iPod Converter software DVD-ROM

    Back up your DVD

  1. Step 1

    Download and install DVD Decrypter from www.dvddecrypter.org.uk. This is a free program that allows you to back up your DVD onto your hard drive.

  2. Step 2

    Insert a DVD into the drive and run the Decrypter program. The program will automatically detect your DVD and read its files.

  3. Step 3

    Click the "Mode" tab and select "IFO."

  4. Step 4

    Click the "Tools" tab and select "Settings." Then select the "IFO Mode" tab. Click the "File Splitting" option and select "None." Then press "OK."

  5. Step 5

    Click the "Stream Processing" tab. Then check the box, "Enable Stream Processing." Check the first two boxes, which are the main audio and video files. Leave the rest unchecked.

  6. Step 6

    Double-check that all the information is correct. Then click the "Decrypt" button.

  7. Convert the DVD

  8. Step 1

    Download and install Videora iPod Converter from http://download.cnet.com/Videora-iPod-Converter/3000-2194_4-10781135.html. This is a free program that will allow you to convert the DVD you just backed up into the format for playing on your iPod.

  9. Step 2

    Run the program. Then, select the "Video File" tab. Then choose "Normal Mode."

  10. Step 3

    Click "Select File." This will lead you to your hard drive's directory. Find the DVD file you just backed up, highlight it and press "Open."

  11. Step 4

    Click "Start Converting." It will take several minutes, and you'll be done.
