Connecting to a secure wireless network can be done, as long as you know how to connect to a secure wireless network located within distance of your laptop or desktop. There is only one way to connect your computer, and it takes about two minutes to do. Once you are connected, you can surf the Internet or check your emails, as long as you stay within range of that specific network connection.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look at the tray at the bottom of your desktop. You will see a little box that looks like a TV. This is the icon for your wireless connection.

  2. Step 2

Use the mouse to right-click on this icon. A drop down box will appear. Click on "Open Available Wireless Networks" to open the connection panel.

  3. Step 3

Look at the available networks. Find the network that you plan to connect to and have a password to use. You must have a password for the secure wireless networks. After you find the name of the network that you will connect through, click on "Connect."

  4. Step 4

Enter the password in the box that pops up asking for a pass code. This should be supplied to you from the owner of the network. If you are using a router in your own home, the password that you gave to your router when you set your security setting is what you use. You will be asked to enter the pass code twice. Then click "Connect."

  5. Step 5

Allow the connection to be made. If you entered the pass code correctly, your wireless connection will show "Connected" next to the network to which you have connected. Close this window and the computer will be ready.
