  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup softened butter

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

      Heat oven to 375 degrees F.

      Beat butter or margarine and sugars in a large bowl until creamy.

      Add eggs, milk and vanilla, beating well.

      Combine flour, baking soda and salt in smaller bowl.

      Add flour mixture to the mixture in the large bowl and mix well.

      Stir in oats, chocolate pieces and nuts.

      Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheet.

      Bake 9 to 10 minutes for a chewy cookie or 12 to 13 minutes for a crisp cookie.

      Remove cookies from oven, let cool for 1 minute on cookie sheet, then remove to wire rack.

      Cool completely and store in tightly covered container.

Tips & Warnings

  • To make bar cookies, press dough onto bottom of ungreased 9-by-13-inch baking pan and bake 30 to 35 minutes, or until edges are light golden brown. Cool completely and cut into bars.

  • You can omit the salt and/or nuts if desired.

  • Though the recipe calls for an ungreased pan, you can line it with parchment paper to make sure the cookies can be removed easily.
