How to Convert JPEG to DWG
If you have a JPEG image file that you want to use in AutoCAD as a DWG file, you must convert your JPEG file. Unfortunately, there are currently no converter programs that can do a straight JPEG-to-DWG conversion. To convert JPEG to DWG, use a vector converter to convert the JPEG to a DXF file, which is also an AutoCAD file. Then you can use an AutoCAD converter to convert the DXF to a DWG file.

Launch your Internet browser. Go to the CNET Download Center website (see Resources).

Download and install Algolab Photo Vector to your computer. You get a 10-day free trial of the program before you have to purchase it ($58 as of 2009).

Open Algolab Photo Vector on your computer. Click "File" and select "Open" to open the JPEG file that you want to convert in Algolab Photo Vector.

Make sure that the correct JPEG file was opened in Algolab Photo Vector. If so, click "File" and select "Save As." This will open the Save As dialog box.

Select DXF as the file type on the Save As dialog box. Select the location to save the DXF file and click "Save." Once you have saved the DXF file, close Algolab Photo Vector.
Convert DXF to DWG

Open your Internet browser again, if you have closed it. Go to the AnyDWG software website (see Resources).

Download and install the Any DWG DXF Converter to your computer. You get a free trial use period but do have to pay to keep it ($75 as of 2009).

Start Any DWG DXF Converter on your computer. Click "Add File" to select the DXF file that you want to convert to DWG.

Select the radio button by DWG (using your mouse) to set your output file type. Click "Browse" by "Output Folder" to pick a location on your computer for the new DWG file when it is created.

Convert to DWG by clicking "Convert Now." When the conversion has finished, your screen will alert you. Click on "Exit" to close the Any DWG DXF Converter. You can now use the new DWG file.
