While most people aren't aware that they grind their teeth during the night, there are a few things you can do to prevent teeth grinding at night during sleep. Teeth grinding not only effects your sleep and the sleep of others, but it also effects your health.

This article will go through a few steps to help you prevent teeth grinding at night.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Try to avoid alcoholic drinks. After being intoxicated, teeth grinding can become magnified.

  2. Step 2

Stop excessive or habitual teeth grinding and clenching your teeth during the day. Extra teeth grinding activities will make your jaw muscles more used to grinding which increases the likely hood of grinding.

  3. Step 3

Use a warm wash cloth or take a warm bath to relax your muscles before bed. This may help relax jaw muscles which in turn decreases the likely hood for teeth grinding during your sleep.

  4. Step 4

Wear a tooth guard as a barrier between your teeth to minimize and prevent teeth grinding during your sleep.

  5. Step 5

Reduce stress. Try exercising. Grinding your teeth and stress on your muscles can be a result of stress. By reducing stress and learning to relax, you will help minimize one aspect which may induce teeth grinding at night.
