Lego cake for Birthday Party

If you have a young boy who is typical, then chances are he loves Legos. Having a Lego theme for a birthday party is a great and simple idea. Making your own Lego cake is easy and a lot cheaper than ordering from a bakery or grocery store. Add just a few details with a Lego theme (small boxes of Legos make a great goody bag for the end of the party), and your child will be excited beyond belief.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two boxes cake mix (your choice of flavor)
  • White icing (store bought, two tubs for extra, or make your own)
  • Food coloring (red, blue, green, and yellow work best for Lego colors)
  • Bag of large marshmallows
  • Three loaf size pans
  1. Step 1

Following box instructions, make the cake mixes. Fill the loaf pans about half to 3/4 full. If you are using three loaf pans to make three Lego for the your Lego cake, you will have extra mix left over. You can use that to make something else or another cake for a fourth Lego brick. Let the cakes cool completely before icing them. Before icing is applied, put them in the freezer for a few minutes. It will make them easier to frost.

  2. Step 2

Mix the icing with food coloring. For the cake in the picture above, a homemade icing was used. Regular white icing is also perfectly fine. You will have to add a few drops of food coloring at a time while mixing. Use more than you think, otherwise the color will be more a pastel color than a darker, true Lego color.

  3. Step 3

Apply the frosting to the cakes. Take your marshmallows and cut off a little at the top so it will not be so tall. Then frost it, and apply to the cake. This is easier than putting the marshmallow on the Lego cake and then applying the frosting. Arrange your marshmallows in whatever design you want. Putting them in rows of two makes them look like a traditional Lego brick.

  4. Step 4

After frosting all the cakes and applying the marshmallows for the raised part of the Lego, arrange them however you prefer on a flat pan or other surface large enough to display your masterpiece. This cake uses three loaf size cakes total, two side by side on the bottom and the third cake laying across the top.
