Hollywood could be calling fido. The latest rage is acting for dogs. Whether 6 months or 5 years, the idea behind acting for dogs is putting these creatures in natural settings for human actors to play off. Sound easy? Well, not really but the playing field for dog acting has opened up and your dog can be discovered as well! Here are the steps to get your dog into acting!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dog
  • Dos acting school
  • Interest in Dog acting interest
  1. Step 1

Get your dog trained in the Los Angeles and Hollywood area. Special acting schools are available for pets. The training will include the basics of what we teach as pets but then also include those signals that bring in special use for Hollywood scenes. Since dog training is intensive, don't expect to have a fully trained dog for several years.

  2. Step 2

Finding a pet agent. Dogs need agents in Hollywood too! And no better way to get an agent than getting dog head shots and hitting the streets. There are agents in Hollywood that cater solely to canines so start searching.

  3. Step 3

Next you will need a stage caretaker. You dog needs to work on stage after the dog acting school which means you don't need to be seen there while he's on call. A caretaker makes sure your dog is taken care of and acts appropriately while on set. Sometimes this could even be your agent, but usually it is an individual especially trained for the job.

  4. Step 4

Auditioning for the parts is the next step for the pet actor. Every dog actor has his day but the only way to have it on film is an audition. With your agent guiding, your dog can go to the audition and see if they can land a part.

Tips & Warnings
  • Dog training for acting is quite elaborate. Expect to move your animal to Los Angeles (if not yourself) so it can be done appropriately.
  • Dog acting is done more on commercials than television or movies.
  • Certain types of dog breeds are cast in television than others.
