Step 1
There is a saying Solomon the Great King of the Bible used after he found his life was nearly over and that is "All is Vanity. This is what Solomon found to be true during his waning hours; however, you might as well declare this to be true now.
I believe if we did not rely on such a perfect self-image things would be much simpler. In order to climb out of under the grip of vanity and self-indulgence the thing to do is to think of others.
Get yourself involved in helping other individuals with their projects and self-absorbed thoughts will not be such an issue. -
Step 2
One way to help others is over the Internet. Perhaps you are particularly talented in a certain area and can bring your area of expertise to others over the net. I noticed when I was researching information as to a cetain form of insect for an article the writer where I attained part of my research had selflessly provided a very well-written article on the topic for no compensation. He certainly had the credentials to demand plenty. It is in sharing we become our best selves.

Step 3
Developing a daily exercise regimine is another way not to let the subject of age overwhelm you. Keeping active whether it be a walking routine, or with an activity such as Yoga is important. This is not only good for your mental aspect, it is also positive as to your physical well-being.
-
Step 4
Become spiritual. Being spiritual is not the same as being religious. You just need to accept a higher being as the reason you are here on Earth when you become spiritual.
Count your blessings each day by writing down things you are grateful and you are well on your way to becoming a very spiritual human being no matter the venue where you practice it. -
Step 5
Make goals for yourself just as you did when you were younger. Put time constraints on areas of your life which you deem as undisciplined. For instance, if you overspend on clothing then promise yourself you won't buy any new clothes for a certain length of time just as you would if you were younger.
You must not develop the attitude time is running thin. Time is precious and self-discipline is very important regardless of age. -
Step 6
Do not be overly picky about your outward appearance: this will prove self-defeating, however still do your best to look as good as you can. No matter what the age I still say pretty is as pretty does. This may sound old-school however nothing is more true.
Being attractive on the outside will do you little good if you do not have any character.
