How to Store and Prepare Eggs

Goods eggs begin with proper storage and a proper cooking method.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • eggs
  • storage container with a lid
  • enamel or stainless-steel pan
  • water, oil or butter
  • whisk
  • salt
  • pepper
  1. Step 1

    STORAGE

    Eggs should be stored without washing
    In a covered container.
    Store in the refrigerator

  2. Step 2

    SOFT or HARD BOILED EGGS

    In the enamel or stainless-steel pan, cover the eggs with cold tap water.
    Bring the water just to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer.

    For soft cooked eggs, simmer them 2-3 minutes. For hard-cooked, 15- 20 minutes.

    Drain the eggs and place them into cold water to stop the cooking process.

  3. Step 3

    POACHED EGGS

    Place 1-2 inches of water into your saucepan and bring it to a boil.
    Break the egg into a saucer.
    Stir the water in the saucepan to create a whirlpool
    Gently slide in the egg
    Repeat these steps for each egg.
    Cooking 3-5 minutes.
    Remove the eggs with a slotted spoon

  4. Step 4

    FRIED EGGS

    For each egg, heat 1 tablespoon of butter or oil.
    When a drop of water sizzles ln the pan, break in the eggs
    Turn the heat to low
    After 2 minutes, turn eggs over and cook for 1 additional minute

  5. Step 5

    SCRAMBLED EGGS

    Allow two eggs per person.
    Lightly beat them
    Add salt and pepper
    Pour into a heated skillet coated with buttered
    Cook over medium heat, stirring gently for 2 or 3 minutes.
    They should be firm, but still creamy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Eggs will keep for several weeks if stored properly. Have for the best quality, use them as soon as possible.
  • Egg yolks can be kept for 2 or 3 days if covered with water.
  • Egg whites can be about a week if they are in a covered container.
  • Add a pinch of salt to boiling eggs in case one should crack
  • Eggs will absorb odors in an open container.
  • If you find a cracked egg, cook it thoroughly.
  • DO NOT eat them raw.
