Some women and girl fashions include ties to cinch in the waist. A bow could be an option; however, a box tends to add a lot of bulk at a point where your back touches a chair, making it feel uncomfortable. Instead, for dress or blouse ties, you can use a square knot which will lie flat. You can click on the pictures to enlarge them to see the detail.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Holding the left tie in your left hand and the right tie in your right hand, lay the left tie over the right tie.

  2. Step 2

Bring the end of the left tie to the back and up. Pull on ties to snug them closer to the body. Allow a little slack for movement.

  3. Step 3

Allow the left tie to fall to the front. Grab the ties, one on top of the other as shown.

  4. Step 4

Run the top/left tie underneath the right/bottom tie (lower arrow in picture). Bring the left tie back over the right tie and through the loop. Pull the ends to snug up the knot, but do not pull too snug.

  5. Step 5

Smooth out the center of the tie by tugging the edges of the square knot. Position the ties to fall from the bottom, outer corners of the square knot.
