Taking Pictures of Fireworks with Digital Cameras is Easy

Want to capture that great fireworks show for all of eternity? Then be sure to take your digital camera with you to the fireworks display. But there are a few tricks you need to know in order to take fireworks pictures that are clear. Otherwise you may end up with pictures that look more like a meteor shower than a fireworks display. Here is how to take clear pictures of fireworks with your digital camera.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Digital Camera
  1. Step 1

Focus on the main part of the sky that the fireworks are in and keep your camera still and focused on that spot. Don't try to move the digital camera around when you see fireworks go off. Instead keep the camera still and ready to snap once the fireworks enter the frame.

  2. Step 2

Turn off the flash on your digital camera. It does nothing to help your pictures because there is nothing for the flash to reflect off of; the fireworks are too far away.

  3. Step 3

Prefocus your digital camera. If you have a very basic digital camera, this usually entails pressing down slightly on the shutter button.

  4. Step 4

Take a lot of pictures at the beginning of the fireworks display. Once you get towards the middle or end of the fireworks show, there is really too much smoke. Note that if you do end up with very smoky pictures, you can use digital editing software to clean them up.
