Avoid Online Mistakes When You Are Going Through A Divorce

There are mistakes that you want to be careful not to make online when you are going through a divorce. With all the social networking sites that are on the internet people do not realize how much information they have put out about themselves, information that can be used against them in a divorce proceeding.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step is to avoid putting up pictures that make you look like you are "living the high life" on social networking sites. This means pictures of you in exotic locations, expensive hotels, maybe a brand new watch you just bought. These pictures could make the court question your true income and could affect the settlement that is reached. Take these pictures down, and if they are on your friends pages(or anywhere else they could be found) ask them to take them down as well. Divorce attorneys love finding pictures like these online and using them against you.

  2. Step 2

The second step is to avoid saying negative things about people involved in your divorce case. Even if it is the opposing lawyer and you do not care for them, keep your thoughts on it off the internet, it could come back to hurt you.

  3. Step 3

The third step is to tell your friends to watch their behavior in regards to you. Pictures being taken down are only half the story, if your friends leave incriminating messages on your pages, or anything else that can be found by someone looking for information on you, ask them to remove it. When you are going through the divorce process always act like someone is watching you online. Ask your friends to keep this in mind when communicating public messages/pictures about you as well
