Step 1
For some, meditation may involve focusing on something specific; however, for most people meditation is a way to do nothing. Meditation is a way to relax the brain and muscles. Meditation can be done at any time of the day or night. The hardest part about meditation is finding the time to do it on a regular basis.

Step 2
Find a quiet place. Be comfortable in your body and mind. Meditation can be very spiritual and help you discover yourself because you do not allow yourself to think about day-to-day problems. Many sit cross-legged but it is not necessary. Make sure to sit upright so you can focus on your breathing.

Step 3
Close your eyes. Closing your eyes can help by not allowing you to focus on your surroundings. Closing your eyes is not necessary but may be very helpful for newcomers.
-
Step 4
Do not worry about technique or time. Meditation is difficult to describe because it is different for each person. I personally prefer to meditate for 10-15 minutes.

Step 5
Find references to help your meditation. You Tube does have guided meditation videos that help beginners. Here are other helpful websites: http://www.wikihow.com/Meditate

Step 6
Be optimistic and patience. Many people may say that meditation is only an Eastern idea. This is not true; Western culture has been very accepting of meditation in recent years. Meditation is not a religion. Meditation does have meaning to several different religions, however. The best way to fully understand is to read about it. Do not expect immediate results. I feel that meditation can be described as a condensed nap when describing it in physical terms. The best adjective to describe how I feel after a session is relaxed.
