Step 1
Prepare-All year long you as a supervisor should be preparing for employee evaluations. You should know your employees well, their strengths, their weaknesses, their likes and dislikes. Get to know each individual, be their go to manager when they are in need of a favor or have a question. Keep notes on employees, it is important to document good and bad things. If you are documenting properly, you will be able to address issues as they come up, so nothing should be a surprise to the employee.

Step 2
Write-When it comes time to write the evaluation have your notes in hand and spend ample amount of time on each person. Do not rush through these are people's futures in your hands. Carefully study your notes and recall memories of events good and bad. Write down in detail areas the person need to improve on but follow it up with a positive. If there is no positive continue on.

Step 3
Deliver-For most getting a performance evaluation is an exciting event. People want to know where they need to improve and what they are doing great on. Always give positive feedback where it is earned. Let the person speak freely and if they disagree with you let them tell you why. Always end the delivery with comfortable casual talk, this makes for a more relaxing exit and better work day.
