Things You'll Need:
- Corn on the cob
- Large pot with a lid
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- Water
- Sharp knife
- Butter
- Salt and pepper
-
Step 1
Determine how much corn on the cob you will be cooking and find a pot large enough to hold all the corn along with enough water to cover it without overflowing. Fill the pot with water, put on the lid and heat it to boiling over high heat.
-
Step 2
While the water is heating, clean the corn by "shucking" it. This is also known as husking the corn and simply means removing the shucks or husks as well as the corn hair. Then scrub the corn on the cob with a soft brush which also helps remove the hair. Cut out any bad spots with a sharp knife.
-
Step 3
When the water boils, remove it from the heat. Carefully add the sugar and the corn on the cob to the water. Replace the lid on the pot and let it set, off the heat, for at least five minutes. A few minutes longer will not hurt but don't let the corn set in the hot water for more than ten minutes as this can cause the corn on the cob to be tough.
-
Step 4
Serve your corn on the cob by spreading with butter and sprinkling with salt and pepper.
