Instructions

    • 1

Determine the material of your fitted cap. Look for a tag on your fitted cap that will tell you what your cap is made of. Most caps will be made of cotton, wool or a synthetic blend.

    • 2

Find the washing instructions. Somewhere on the cap, most likely where the material is revealed, your tag should tell you the washing instructions.

    • 3

Follow the washing instructions according to the tag. If the tag does not specify washing instructions or is missing, use the following methods for washing your fitted cap. For tough stains, pretreat the stain with a stain with a detergent or spot cleaner and allow to sit on the cap. Work in the stain pre-treat rubbing in the same direction of the grain of the fabric. Rinse the stain once the pre-treat has sat on the fabric for an hour or two. Repeat as needed.

Set up a bucket with cool water and add a cap full of gentle detergent. Only wash a cap that is made of cotton or a synthetic material. Use cold water, as hot water may shrink your cap. Gently dip the cap in the bucket and swirl it around. Rinse it in the sink with cold water and gently squeeze out any extra water. Do not squeeze too hard or you might distort the fitted cap. Lay the cap on a towel and allow to air dry.

    • 5

Take a wool cap to the dry cleaner. A dry cleaner will have the proper tools and dry cleaning materials to clean your fitted cap without ruining it.

    • 6

Wash baseball caps by placing a baseball cap washing insert in the cap. The insert helps to retain the shape during cleaning. Place your cap in the dishwasher with the insert placed inside the cap and allow the cap to air dry before removing the insert.

Tips & Warnings

  • Washing a wool fitted cap in water may shrink the cap and ruin the shape of the cap.
