How to Wash Smartwool Socks

Smartwool socks are exceptionally warm and comfortable. They are made of 100 percent pure merino wool, which makes them very durable. Wool is an ideal material for hot or cold, wet or dry weather because it breathes and wicks away moisture even while it is still in a vapor state. Additionally, wool dries quickly, which makes these socks great for hiking and outdoor sports. Smartwool makes many styles of socks, from light, medium and heavyweight hiking socks to dressier patterns and styles. Since Smartwool socks are more expensive than ordinary cotton socks, it pays to wash them properly so they don't wear out or shrink. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your Smartwool socks in cold water, either in the washing machine or by hand.

    • 2

Use a mild detergent such as Woolite or Ivory. Don't add too much soap because soap residue can cause the fibers to break down.

    • 3

Rinse thoroughly. When washing by hand, fill a sink or tub with clear water to rinse.

    • 4

Do not wring socks out if hand washing. This will cause them to lose their shape. Roll the socks in a towel and press hard to absorb the excess water.

    • 5

Put socks in the dryer on the lowest setting. Never dry on high as this will shrink the wool. Alternatively, hang the socks up to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • To prolong the life of your Smartwool socks, never walk on rough stone or concrete as this will damage the fibers. Always wear shoes or slippers when walking outside.
