Write Sympathy Cards

When a sad event happens to a friend, loved one, or acquaintance, it helps to write sympathy cards to express your regret at their loss. While not fun, writing sympathy cards is rather simple.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Send the card as soon after the death as you can. It is not very sympathetic for someone to receive your sympathy card a month after the funeral. It is appropriate if you did not hear of the death for several months but explain this in your message if this is the case.

  2. Step 2

Make it short and simple. Express your sorrow at their loss but do not add a long message. Offer help if needed and if you feel you have more to say compose a separate letter to be sent later.

  3. Step 3

Sign the sympathy card with your full name and, if necessary, with your relation to the deceased. In times of grief someone may have trouble remembering you were a coworker ten years ago.
